The 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV (formerly known as the M-Class) delivers the latest in premium sport utility excellence. The new name comes with a fresh new design, a just-right size and a long list of interior and safety enhancements.

MY16_GLE_IM11For 2016, the new look includes redesigned headlamps, tail lamps, front fenders and front and rear bumpers. Inside, the cabin is all-new, as well. There are new colour and trim choices inside and out, new wheel designs, more standard equipment and new safety systems.

The 2016 GLE SUV (MSRP from $63,200) comes in four versions, including GLE 350d 4MATIC®, GLE 450 AMG 4MATIC® and GLE 550 4MATIC®. There is also an AMG® GLE 63 S variant.

The 2016 GLE 350d 4MATIC® sports a 3.0-litre six cylinder clean diesel engine that delivers 249 horsepower and a huge 455 lb-ft of torque, more torque than some V8s. Standard 4MATIC® four-wheel drive boosts confidence in bad conditions and enhances handling and cornering year-round. With all that power, you still get 8.0 litres per 100 kilometres on the highway.

The 2016 GLE 450 4MATIC® SUV is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 packing 362 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque, good for a 5.7 second sprint to 100 km/h. Next up is the 2016 GLE 550 4MATIC® 2016 GLE SUVthat uses a 4.7-litre V8, capable of 429 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque and a 5.3 second zero-to-100 km/h time.

The AMG® GLE 63 S 4MATIC® uses a specially tuned 5.5-litre V8 with a pulse pounding 577 horsepower and 560 lb-ft of torque and a 4.2 second race to 100 km/h.

The GLE 350d 4MATIC and GLE 450 AMG 4MATIC are paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission, while the GLE 550 4MATIC comes with a seven-speed automatic transmission that provides smooth, responsive performance and high-efficiency cruising. The AMG GLE 63 S has its own AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS seven speed automatic transmission.

The GLE SUV is capable, too; properly equipped, the GLE 350d 4MATIC®, GLE 450 AMG 4MATIC and GLE 550 4MATIC® can tow up to 3,265 kilograms.

Standard advanced active and passive safety equipment has been a Mercedes-Benz hallmark for many decades. The GLE carries COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS, PRE-SAFE predictive occupant protection, and PRE-SAFE PLUS. Additionally, GLE buyers can add DISTRONIC PLUS® adaptive cruise control with Steering Assist.

As you would expect, the five-passenger Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV cabin is a luxurious, versatile place to be. There’s over 1,050 litres of cargo space behind the rear seats. Fold the 60/40-split second-row down, and you have over 2,200 litres of cargo room. A power liftgate is standard. Luxurious appointments and fine craftsmanship are everywhere you look. Hand-finished wood, carefully fitted upholstery, and fine metal details adorn the comfortable cabin. Heated front seats and steering wheel are standard, and available features include ventilated front seats and heated rear seats.

The seats are trimmed in ARTICO leather; and there are other colour options and styles as well, in addition to various trim choices.

The new 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV remains at the head of its class, and that’s good news for drivers who don’t want to settle for less. Schedule a test drive today.
